Stratigraphy

Due to the development of sequence stratigraphy concepts during the last 20 years. The stratigraphic nomenclature of the regions have to be reviewed. This page will only shows the most common stratigraphic nomenclature uses by many author, which of course, in related to informal stratigraphic nomenclature.

Basin Clasifications.

There are many classifications have been proposed for sedimentary basins within Indonesia and S E Asia regions (Murphy, 1975; Soeparjadi et al, 1975; Barber, 1985, Hutchison, 1984).Even these classifications variously accomodate a majority of basins they do not always provide a consistent scheme and I do not intend to create a specific classification only general terms in relations to the deposition to the cratonic setting. Shematically can be seen on Figure .....

The nature of Indonesia region can be devided into two major stratigraphy setting The Eastern Indonesia and the Western Indonesia. These two settings are due to the tectonic evolutions (see General Tectonic).

Western Indonesia Regions.

Generally the stratigraphy of the Western Regions divided in four mega sequences:

1. The Eocene-Oligocene syn-rift

During the

2. The Oligocene-Early Miocene post-rift thermal sag

3. The E Miocene to Pliocene

4. Plio-Pleistocene

Eastern Indonesia Regions.
